Can sportswear be washed in a washing machine?

It is very important not to procrastinate cleaning. After every workout, sweat accumulates in the technical channels of the material making it loose waterproof and breathable properties. Moreover, unwashed sports clothes create conditions that encourage the growth of bacteria, fungus, and mould which have a negative impact not only on the clothes but also on your skin. This applies to both training and running clothes. Probably you often wonder if your training clothes can be washed in a washing machine. Usually, sports clothes are made from a combination of such fabrics as polyester and elastane. Thanks to the development of technology, such brands as P.E Nation and Adidas by Stella McCartney opt for recycled fabrics that aren’t worse than their prototypes. The first step is to check the label. If the producer doesn’t recommend handwashing only, you can wash the clothes in a washing machine. Most devices are equipped with special washing programs such as delicate washing that are just perfect for sports clothes. Remember that the temperature of water shouldn’t exceed 30 degrees. Higher temperature can badly influence the material, deprive it of its properties, and shrink. It can also destroy prints and elements made from flex foil. Therefore, remember to turn the clothes inside out before washing. Separate training clothes from the rest of the clothes that can destroy them. Zip closures or appliqués can make a whole in the fabric. You can also use special poaches for washing that additionally protect the fabric. Avoid intensive detergents and bleaches. Instead, choose delicate detergents or products dedicated to washing sports clothes. If you are wondering if you can wash thermal underwear in the same way, read this article.

Vinegar as a universal substance for washing training clothes

If you don’t have a delicate detergent or your clothes are still dirty and smell badly after washing, opt for the vinegar. This universal cleaning agent can be found in any house. It will also wash your sports clothes. It will not only remove difficult spots but also softens the fabric and keep the color. What does it look in practice? If you want to remove the spots, spray some vinegar on them and leave them for 15 minutes or soak them in vinegar mixed with warm water 1:2. After this, wash them in a washing machine according to the instructions above. If you want to get rid of the unpleasant smell or emphasize its color, add a glass of vinegar to the washing machine. Let’s emphasize that a vinegar kills bacteria.

Training clothes after washing – drying and ironing

When your sports clothes are clean, hang them on a clothesline dryer to avoid unwanted moisture that causes unpleasant smells. Sports clothes shouldn’t be ironed. Hot temperature of the iron and vapour have a negative effect on the technical structure of the clothes. You don’t need to iron the clothes so that they fit the body. Training clothes are designed to adjust to the body shape. These few rules are enough to make your training outfit serve you as long as possible.
