Sailing has its beginnings in 17th century. It was popularized by Dutch and English sailors. The first sailing club was set up in 1718. Yachting made its first appearance as an Olympic sport at the 1900 Summer Olympics and it’s still the part of the sports competition that evokes the strongest emotions!

Feasting and telling stories are great opportunities for toasting, only the captain can raise them while sitting, it’s also forbidden to clink glasses. Sailors believe that the sound of glass may foretell the death of someone aboard.It’s also forbidden to whistle as it might call up the winds and storm. Sailors never write the destination port in the log as they never know if they get there.
