LEKI Lenhart GmbH was set up in 1948 as a branch of Karla Lenharta’s company which produced wooden lettering for bakeries and butchers.The founder of the brand, Karl Lenhart, was a keen skier who wasn’t happy about the quality of available ski poles. He decided to take matters into his own hands and started producing grips and baskets for ski poles. In the 60s it turned into a mass production. In the 70s, Lenhart decided to use his experience in aircraft manufacturing and started designing aluminum ski poles. They were sold under LEKI brand which is an abbrevation for the owner’s name and company’s headquarters: Lenhart in Kirchheim.
