Japanese brand Y-3 was created by Yohji Yamamototo design and manufacture sportswear that is functional, inimitable and unique. Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto is famous for his avant-garde style, characteristic oversize fit, black color, original texture and impressive draperies. Born in Tokyo, Yamamoto has tailoring in his blood, his mother was a tailor and run a clothing shop in Kabukicho, Shinjuku district. Yohji graduated from Law School but quickly realized that legal codes and courtrooms aren’t for him. “I didn’t want to do a regular job, so when I graduated I told my mum that… I wished to help her.” Yamamoto’s mother allowed him to work in her shop where he learnt tailoring. He also studied at Bunka Fashion College, a well-known school for designers, such famous designers as Kenzo Takada and Junyi Watanabe also studied there.

As a reward for graduating from Bunki Yohji he went to Paris for a year, but only after returning to Japan did he begin discovering his true identity.He set up his own company that specializes in designing ready-to-wear clothes that became more and more popular in big cities in Japan. The success brought his thoughts back to Paris, at the beginning of the 80s, Yamamoto came back to the capital of France where he opened his first shop in Europe. Since that moment, Yamamoto became globally famous and gained a group of dedicated fans. His two main lines: Yohji Yamamoto and Y"s are sold in luxury department stores all over the world. Yamamoto has also been recognized many times for his contribution to fashion. He received many awards including: Chevalier from Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon, Ordre national du Mérite, Royal Designer for Industry and Master of Design Award from Fashion Group International.
